A couple who have been married for 64 years have settled down in a retirement village in Chalfont St Peter.
Mr and Mrs Burns have lived a life full of excitement but have now made the Rutherford House Retirement development their new home.
The couple both had exciting careers with Mrs Burns working in the pharmaceutical industry for 18 years and Mr Burns working as a television producer for both the BBC and ITV.
One of their highlights came for the couple after Mrs Burns wrote a letter to The Queen in 2016 to wish her a happy 90th birthday.
They then received a phone call from Buckingham Palace inviting them to afternoon tea with members of the royal family to celebrate the Queen’s birthday.
Mrs Burns said: “Spending a day at the Palace to celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday allowed us to reflect on our lives as we are getting older.
“The Queen looked marvellous at 90 and she inspired us to maintain her energy, spirit and health into our later years.”
The pandemic has been a difficult time for everyone, but Mr and Mrs Burns said that the support they received from Rutherford House staff has been amazing.
Mrs Burns said: “Even though lockdown has meant our experience over the past few months has been slightly different, the team here have been absolutely brilliant and have really put themselves out to help us however they could.
“It’s been so reassuring to know that there’s someone there to offer support.”
