A gas leak underneath the A41 Watford, near the Dome Roundabout by Asda, has led to a number of road closures today (Saturday, January 2).
The A41 is closed between Asda and the Dome Roundabout, while St Albans Road is closed in the direction of North Watford.
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue tweeted about the suspected gas leak at 4.40am this morning and said they expected delays in the area to last “for some time.”
Cadent Gas are currently repairing the gas main.
A Caden spokesperson said: “We had reports of a smell of gas in the area and have found a leak on a pipe that runs underneath the A41, near The Dome roundabout.
“Our teams are on site now working to fix this. We’ve had to close the road – northbound only – to do that safely.
“Access is available to all shops and businesses in the local area. Follow the diversion signs. We appreciate everyone’s patience while we get this done.
“If anyone smells gas in the local area, it’s very important to report that immediately to the national gas emergency number 0800 111 999. Don’t assume it’s related to this – it may not be and we must investigate it.”
