Residents organise surprise party for retired postman

Neighbourhood residents from Pinner organised a surprise party for their postman, who has retired after working for 22 years.

Patsy and Garry Scanlan, from Barrow Point Avenue, decided to host a surprise party for their postman, Dean Williams.

Patsy said: “We invited all the neighbours to come to our house for an open party from two until five.

“His wife told him he was coming over for some tea so he was completely surprised by everyone.”

The residents presented Dean with a card, a collection of £330 and a book full of written messages from all the neighbours and those who knew him.

Presents for both his children and flowers for Dean’s wife were also gifted.

Patsy said: “He was so touched, he sent us a card to say how blown away he was by everyone.”

Dean trained as an accountant; so by mornings he was a postman and an accountant in the afternoon.

The party was important to Patsy and her husband. She said: “He is such a nice young man, he’s delightful and has always got time to have a laugh and a joke with someone.”

After 22 years, Dean has left the post office to become a fulltime accountant.
