Standards have slipped at a Berkhamsted school, according to a recent Ofsted inspection.
St Thomas More Catholic Primary School was last inspected in 2009, when it received an Outstanding rating. The recently published report revealed that much has changed in the intervening time, and the school has now receiving an overall rating of Requires Improvement.
The report read: “In the early years, the activities staff arrange and their interactions with children are not tightly focused on children learning the words, ideas and skills they need to know.”
While three of five criteria have been labelled as Requires Improvement, two are graded as Good.
Executive headteacher Mrs Little said: “We are obviously disappointed; however, we are pleased that Ofsted identified some very strong areas of the school, including noting that pupils are happy and well cared for and that the relationships between teachers and pupils are warm and friendly.
“We were already working within the school to improve the learning experience for all our pupils. We have dedicated, energetic and enthusiastic teachers and we are confident that we can address the issues.”
