Rickmansworth musician Callum Granger, who has played guitar since age nine, has released a solo album.
Shadows in an Empty Room was inspired by a conversation Callum had with his father, a fellow musician, in December 2024.
Callum, 27, explained to Ricky News: “Me and my dad were sitting down with a glass of something strong and said to ourselves, we should probably do an album in 2025. So over the course of 2025, we picked some older songs, wrote some new ones and tweaked some others until we had a running order we were really proud of and those 12 songs are now on my album.”
Callum’s love for acoustic music grew at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. He formed Americana duo Borders with singer Faith White, performing at venues nationwide.
Callum began gigging solo during the COVID-19 lockdown, performing monthly livestream concerts called Live and Alive. This built a dedicated following for his Americana, folk, and blues sound.
Callum said recording the album was “awesome”. Shadows in an Empty Room was recorded in his home studio, created during lockdown.
He said: “Obviously, it all had to come from me… It took an unbelievable amount of work, but in the end I’m really proud of the final product.”
Callum added the response has been “really positive” so far. He said: “Obviously my following is still relatively small but within this small and loyal community people seem to be liking what I’m putting out there.”
With festivals already pencilled in for 2026, Callum’s career continues to grow. The album is available to stream. Follow @callummusic1 on Facebook or Instagram for updates.
