‘REALLY GRATEFUL’: Watford Cricket Club unveil new practice nets thanks to £20,000 grant

Watford Town Cricket Club have celebrated the installation of new practice nets, with an official opening by Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor.

The new facility at the club’s Woodside ground was made possible thanks to a £20,000 neighbourhood grant from Watford Borough Council, adding to the club’s own investment.

Mayor Taylor was joined by several local councillors for the opening on Wednesday, June 12.

He told guests and players: “I’m really grateful to everyone at the club for all they do and it was great to see how popular their training is with the community.”

The new nets are fully enclosed, making them safe to use when matches are taking place on the adjacent pitch. The surface, meanwhile, provides ideal batting conditions.

The club plans to enhance the practice facility still further later this year, with the addition of a power supply for a bowling machine. This will also make lighting a possibility to extend the hours of use for the club’s many players.
