Quiz night in Bushey Heath pub raises £800 for Barbra Buses

A packed pub in Bushey presented a cheque from their weekly quiz night to charity The Barbra Bus Fund.

Landlord Michael Duffy allowed the quiz to be staged at The Three Crowns in Bushey Heath for the local charity which provides specially adapted vehicles transport people who cannot transfer from their wheelchairs.

With prizes generously donated by individuals or local companies, including chocolatiers Browns with their ‘Sweet Tree’, Crown Honda and independent funeral celebrant Peter McNulty, a raffle on the night raised £325.

This was added to the entry fees and boosted by a kind donation from the Three Crowns charity pot and a grand total of £800 was given to the Barbara Bus.

The quizmaster was the irrepressible Steve O’Kane, bringing his own brand of ready wit to make the evening go with a swing.

Barbara Buses are a familiar sight in the locality and their uses are seemingly unlimited – medical appointments, hairdressing, weddings, funerals and other family gatherings, trips to the theatre and cinema, days out to meet friends and family are just a few of the trips that are undertaken every month.

Clients can borrow the vehicles and supply their own driver, or they can call on the services of a small team of volunteer drivers.

“I can’t begin to tell you what a real difference this money will make” said a spokesperson for the charity. “Anything involving vehicles is an expensive undertaking and this money will be well spent. Thank you to Michael Duffy and his regular quizzers at the Three Crowns. In our eyes, you are stars.”
