The DEMBE Theatre in Tring is hosting a special edition of a popular musical later this year to raise money for a breast cancer charity.
Kate Miles’ two daughters attend workshops at Scott’s Performing Arts. Sadly, Kate was diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer in April 2020, and stage 4 cancer a short while after.
Since then, Kate has raised £35,000 for Breast Cancer Now to support research into the disease.
Now, Emily Scott, Kate’s friend and director of Scott’s Performing Arts, has announced that Scott’s will put on a charity performance of Shrek the Musical, which will be put together in just 24 hours.
Speaking to TRINGnews, Emily said: “We here at Scott’s are so excited about our fundraiser performance of Shrek the Musical. So much of what we do is about providing performers with performance opportunities ‘all in a day’s work’, so putting on a musical in 24 hours seemed like the best way for us to raise money for this amazing cause.
“Kate is an inspiration, getting to teach her two girls is a joy, and we cannot wait to get this project going. This production is for everyone, whether you have never been on stage before or are a seasoned pro, we would love you to come down on our audition day and get involved!”
Auditions take place on Sunday, September 15, with the show set to take place at the DEMBE Theatre on Friday, October 25, and Saturday, October 26. Emily is also looking for local businesses to get involved as sponsors.
