Q&A: Welcome in the New Year with Gagan Mohindra, MP for South West Hertfordshire

Published on: 31st December 2021   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

What have you learned from 2021 that you’re bringing into 2022?

2021 showcased the resilience of my constituents of South West Hertfordshire. It showed that despite so much uncertainty, local businesses adapted and innovated to respond to these challenges.

Many have moved part of their business online or diversified to produce face masks and other new necessities to keep us all safe.

It is my priority to ensure that through 2022 these businesses continue to thrive and build back better.

What are you most excited for this year?

I am most excited to see the return of normality as we continue to navigate our way out of the pandemic.

It is so encouraging that people are able to enjoy socialising with their loved ones again and I look forward to seeing this gradually become the frequent normality once more.

What do you anticipate will be your biggest challenge?

The pandemic has meant the last couple of years have been extremely difficult for everyone.

I worry that the state of people’s mental health will have taken a serious, and potentially undiagnosed, hit. If you are worried about someone’s mental health, send them a message, ask if they want to talk and let them know that you are there for them.

I am pleased that the Government are responding to these concerns. Mental health services will receive budget growth of £2.3 billion- the fastest ever uplift in funding.

I hope to see this enable further service expansion and faster access to community and crisis mental health services for both adults and particularly children and young people.

Come the end of this year, what will you hope to have achieved?

I hope to continue representing the views of my constituents and helping with their issues to the best of my ability. As an MP it is my duty to represent constituents by legislating, supporting, scrutinising and holding our government to account.

The role of any politician is to be a critical friend as we all want to make our communities better.

I remain deeply humbled and honoured to represent you and I will continue to keep this at the forefront of all of my work, both in Westminster and in the constituency.
