POSTCODE LOTTERY: Stanmore residents outline heart-warming plans after huge cash win

Four neighbours in Stanmore have already planned out emotional trips abroad after winning £150,000 with People’s Postcode Lottery.

The cash windfall comes after the neighbours’ postcode, HA7 1PQ, was announced as a winner with the lottery on Saturday, January 22.

Three of the neighbours won £30,000, with a fourth landing £60,000 playing with two tickets.

Tak-Kwong Liu (pictured right), 47, was left stunned when his £60,000 cheque was revealed.

The dad-of-two, who has lived on the street for over 20 years, signed up to the lottery online, but at first wasn’t sure that his first ticket went through and decided to sign up again.

After realising that he had placed two tickets instead of one, he decided to continue playing with two.

He joked that it turned out to be “a good mistake”.

He added: “You see the adverts on TV. You just hear it; you want to believe it. I didn’t believe it and I still can’t.

“I’ve got family in Hong Kong and my wife has family in China, but due to the pandemic, we’ve not been able to get back. But now we can look at having a little trip.”

Tak, who works as a police dispatcher, has set his sights set on treating his wife and two sons.

He added: “I know my wife wants something from Tiffany’s. My son needs a new laptop and I think my other son wants a gaming chair.”

With four winners on the street, Tak was quick to point out how delighted he was to win with his neighbours, adding: “It’s nice to win on your own but its nicer to win with your neighbours. It’s very special. I love this community and I love my neighbours here. We’re very close.”

Another winner was Karen Brock, 47, who scooped £30,000.

Karen (pictured centre), a mum of two, said: “I was made redundant twice during the pandemic and it’s just a great feeling to know we’ll be able to spoil ourselves, as it’s been tough.”

“The first thing I’m going to do is book a trip to Euro Disney for my six-year-old granddaughter. Then I’m going to book a holiday for myself, somewhere hot and sunny because I haven’t been anywhere in four years, and I desperately need a tan.”

Karen’s next-door neighbour, Tudor Davies (pictured left), 67, also picked up £30,000 thanks to his postcode.

Tudor couldn’t quite believe his luck when his prize amount was revealed and said: “That is crazy. I’m quite taken aback. I’ll probably go back to the Caribbean later this year to visit some friends and family.

“My wife passed away from cancer ten years ago and I haven’t visited her sister in a long time. I’ll hopefully fly first class now.”

Tudor, who is an avid rugby fan, added: “There are a number of rugby trips on the horizon and let’s hope everything gets back to some normality this year and I can go back out there and support my beloved Wales.”

The other winner chose to remain anonymous.
