PLUG-IN: London borough of Harrow launches 500 new EV charging points

Published on: 9th February 2026   |   By: Ellie Rose   |   Category: Featured

The London Borough of Harrow is rolling out 500 new on-street EV charge points across the borough in partnership with char.gy – giving you more places to plug in on your doorstep.

The focus is on residential streets and is designed for residents without a driveway or off-street parking. The charge points are attached to lamp columns and provide low-powered charging, perfect for topping up your electric vehicle while it is parked at home.

225 new charge points are installed, with another 275 on the way by October 2, 2028. That means more convenient, reliable charging when and where you need it.

Councillor David Ashton, Cabinet Member for Finance and Highways, said: “We’re putting residents first by making it easier to charge electric vehicles where people actually live. More on-street charging means less time searching for a plug and more confidence for drivers every day. It’s a big step forward for residents who already drive electric and for anyone thinking about making the switch.”

All new charge points run on 100% renewable electricity. Charging is easy, affordable and flexible, with clear pricing and cheaper overnight rates – perfect for topping up while you sleep.

John Lewis, CEO of char.gy, said: “We’re delighted to be expanding our network in Harrow with 500 new charge points. This expansion will make a real difference for everyday drivers: people who live without a driveway, those switching to electric for the first time, and anyone who wants reliable, affordable charging close to home.

“Providing local charging that people can depend on gives drivers confidence to switch to electric, and that’s what this rollout is all about. We look forward to working with the council, residents and local communities as these chargers go live.”

This rollout is part of Harrow’s climate strategy and builds on the borough’s growing EV charging network. More than 100 on-street chargers are already in place through partnerships backed by government funding, including the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS).

Together, these schemes give residents more choice, the ease of charging close to home and cleaner journeys.
