A man from Stevenage has been jailed in connection with several shop thefts across the county.
Lester Headley, 25, stole electrical goods from several shops including Tesco in Baldock and Borehamwood, HMV in Stevenage and TK Maxx in Watford. The thefts occurred between September 10 and October 16 this year.
Headley, of Trumper Road, pleaded guilty to four counts of theft from a shop, one attempted theft, assault by beating, using threatening or abusive words or behaviour and breaching a community order.
He was sentenced to a total of 17 weeks in prison at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 31, and was also ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
PC Jamie Atkinson, who investigated Headley’s offences, said: “Shoplifting is not a victimless crime and we want people to feel that shops in Hertfordshire are safe places to work and visit.
“I hope Headley’s prison sentence shows we do not tolerate shoplifting and that we will always seek to bring offenders to justice.”
