A local charity raising money for a new playground in St Albans has revealed the approved design and is making one last plea for donations.
Let’s Play at Bernards Heath has released the plans for a new playground on Bernards Heath in a bid to inspire the local community to help them raise a final £7,000. These further funds will ensure the inclusion of all the items of equipment included in the £100,000 design.
St Albans City & District Council and Let’s Play have chosen a design which relates to both younger and older children, is in keeping with the heath’s leafy surroundings and scores highly on inclusivity. The design incorporates requests from right across the local community, including those of children attending nearby schools, and the most sought-after pieces of equipment are all featured.
To raise funds, the charity launched a popular Buy-a-Brick campaign this summer – offering the opportunity for people to donate in return for a professionally engraved paving brick at the new playground’s entrance. Let’s Play has now extended the deadline to November 5. The bricks will create lasting memories for families who may wish to have their children’s names engraved.
Organisations, clubs, and businesses are also welcome to Buy-a-Brick, and the charity has also invited them to consider having their logo proudly displayed on one of the two remaining spaces on the Benefactors’ Board at the playground’s entrance.
Let’s Play chairman David Pearce said: “With one last push, we’ll be able to buy all of the equipment featured in the brilliant design. This is a once-in-a-generation project and we’re so close to the final target. Every extra brick bought will make a huge difference and help ensure we can buy every piece of equipment in the design and make this community playground the best it can be. All additional money raised will go towards supplementary equipment and upgraded items.
“Be quick and buy your brick!”
