Residents are invited to donate to, fund and organise local events to help support young patients at Watford General Hospital.
Rebecca Hennessey is the area coordinator for Children’s Hospital Pyjamas, a charity that collects new pyjamas for unwell and disadvantaged children in hospitals and hospices. She collects for five hospitals, including Watford General, and is now calling out to local residents for support.
She explained: “The children at Watford General Hospital need your help. I am still on the lookout for local businesses to offer their premises for collection points so the general public can drop these off easily. If you are able to offer to be a collection point until the end of November, that would be amazing, please get in touch! (I will even supply a box!)
“So far, donations have been slow and we are nowhere near our target of 92 pairs of pyjamas for each establishment. This is where you can help!”
Residents can get involved by donating a new pair of pyjamas, making a financial donation, organising an official event to raise money, or getting your school to hold an event to either fundraise or collect pyjamas.
Helen Cripps, health play specialist at Watford General Hospital, told WATFORDnews: “What a generous and caring thing it is for the patients on the ward to be given brand new pyjamas on their admission, especially for those that have come in as an emergency case and whose parents haven’t been able to pack anything.
“It’s these things that can truly brighten up a day in hospital. Thank you to everyone who has donated to Children’s Hospital Pyjamas and to Rebecca for coordinating deliveries for the last two years. A huge thank you to you all from Starfish Ward at Watford General Hospital.”
