A St Albans police officer has been recognised for going above and beyond in serving the local community.

On Friday, December 6, St Albans district police officers were presented with several awards, however the most prestigious award of the ceremony was handed to PC Clare Lapenna.

PC Lapenna was awarded the 1836 Award for her exemplary service over the past 20 years.

St Albans formed a police station in 1836, when it initially consisted of just five officers.

To honour this, the award recognises an officer who has worked incredibly hard and consistently shows commitment and professionalism.

She was presented with her award by Chief Superintendent Jon Simpson.

Speaking to PC Lapenna, Chief Inspector Martin Turpin said: “Having served St Albans for nearly 20 years, you are incredibly passionate, professional, always positive and nothing is ever too much effort. Your commitment over 20 years cannot be summarised in one paragraph, but the fact you were nominated by numerous officers and staff across different departments and levels exemplifies the depth and breadth of your credibility and influence. You are a true credit to St Albans.”
