Plans for a block of eight two-bed flats on Bridgewater Way in Bushey have been refused, despite being recommended for approval by the Planning Inspectorate.
The application was originally submitted on November 11, 2022 . On Thursday, April 24, Hertsmere Borough Council’s (HBC) Planning Committee voted to refuse the application after several amendments had been made to the application. The amendments, which were made during the planning process, included adding two more parking spaces and rearranging the windows.
The application was called to the committee by former local ward councillor Anne Swerling for “loss of residents’ parking, increase in traffic and detrimental impact on highway safety of the local road network”.
Previously, all 31 responses were against the proposal.
The reasons highlighted for HBC’s decision included: “The lack of adequate parking provision within the immediate vicinity… which would be to the detriment of parking availability and convenience.”
HBC also wrote that the development “would result in a contrived and overly cramped form of development and would represent a very poor standard of design, thereby resulting in significant and demonstrable harm towards the visual amenity of the area.”
