‘NOT ALONE’: Mental health charity thanks building contractor for donation

Published on: 9th April 2025   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

A building contractor has donated to a mental health charity that was founded in memory of a teenager from Tring.

Hector’s House was founded in memory of Hector Stringer, who played for Tring Rugby Club and attended Tring School. Hector took his own life aged 18 in 2011.

On Thursday, March 13, Hector’s House received a donation of £1,500 from building contractors Blackwell Earthmoving.

A spokesperson for the charity headed to social media and said: “It’s heartbreaking to know that construction workers are nearly four times more likely to die by suicide than any other industry. In 2021 alone, 507 lives were lost — that’s two people every day. Every life matters, and that’s 507 too many.

“We’ve been working closely with Blackwell Earthmoving in Buckinghamshire to help raise awareness of the support we offer, so that anyone struggling with their mental health knows they’re not alone and has somewhere to turn.”
