Following the Planning Inspectorate’s decision to scrap plans to build a solar farm near Radlett, a second application for a slightly smaller version has been withdrawn by the developer.
On May 31, a Planning Officer from Hertsmere Borough Council (HBC) revealed that a second application to build a solar plant at the land north of Butterfly Lane, Aldenham, had been withdrawn after correspondence with developers Enso Energy.
The difference between the application blocked by the Planning Inspectorate and the second application were small, centering around a s strip of land next to the M1. Where the first application detailed plans to install solar panels on the corridor of land between the M1 and Hillfield Lane, the second application excluded this addition.
The larger of the two proposals had been at appeals stage since 2022 and was finally rejected in April, 2024.
Janet Engels of Letchmore Heath Village Trust commented: “The dismissal of the first appeal was very comprehensive and would have set a high bar for the developer to overcome, even with respect to the smaller site. Our community is relieved and delighted that the second application has been withdrawn.”
Enso Energy has been contacted for comment.
