No banking on when new branch will open

A new seven-day-a-week bank in Watford will open with just a few weeks’ notice amid fears that building work could be delayed.

Metro Bank confirmed to WatfordNews that its new branch will open in the town in 2018, as planned. However, the bank couldn’t commit to a date or even a season, owing to concerns that building work on the High Street could hit a snag.

A spokesperson said: “We will let everyone know when we are two or three weeks from opening, and when we do we will celebrate with a special event.

“It will definitely open in 2018 but unfortunately, we can’t commit to a month or season. As soon as we have a clearer picture, we will inform everyone.”

Metro Bank breaks from the norm in terms of banking as they open seven days a week, remain open late in the evening and no appointments will be necessary.

The Watford branch will create 25 new jobs for the town and Metro Bank’s chief executive, Craig Donaldson, explained the joy at opening their new branch later this year.

He said: “We’re excited to land the banking revolution in Watford and become part of the local community.

“At Metro Bank, we’ve built a bank around our customers. A bank that gives people choice.  Whether they want to bank face-to-face in store, online, on-the-go or through UK-based 24/7 contact centres, they’ll be assured that they’ll always receive unparalleled service.”

The Watford branch is expected to be open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Fridays, 8am to 6pm on Saturdays and 11am to 5pm on Sundays and bank holidays.
