A long-standing Chorleywood councillor has been chosen as the new chairman of Three Rivers District Council (TRDC).
Councillor Raj Khiroya, who has represented the Chorleywood South and Maple Cross Ward since 2008, was elected unanimously by councillors at a meeting on Tuesday, December 12.
This follows the resignation of Phil Williams, who resigned both as chairman and as a district councillor in October of last year, citing personal reasons.
Cllr Khiroya had served as Mr Williams’ vice-chair during this period. His own vice-chair was chosen as councillor Tony Humphreys.
Cllr Khiroya has lived in Chorleywood for 35 years, having moved to the UK from Uganda in 1969. He now lives in the village with his wife Tanuja and his two adult sons, who both attended schools in the area.
Reacting to his election, he said: “I am honoured to serve as chair of TRDC. I look forward to representing the council at events and meeting residents, local charities and voluntary organisations.”
