A new shop in Chorleywood has responded to online criticism of its opening, insisting that it will be a force for good in the community.
Concerns were raised on the Facebook group ‘Chorleywood Mums’ by some users who were worried about new business Tech ‘n’ Vape, which has opened on Lower Road, because it sells e cigarettes and different flavoured smoking vapours, or ‘vapes’.
However, one of the business’s co-owners Aaron Singh has said that the shop aims to be a positive influence in the community and does not want to cause concern.
He said: “People seem to be worried that we’re going to be giving vapes to kids, but we won’t be doing that.
“We’re not here to encourage anyone to start vaping, we’re here to encourage people to stop smoking.”
Research has shown that vaping could be much healthier than smoking and many smokers are switching to e cigarettes as an alternative. Government statistics estimate that it could be as much as 95% less harmful than smoking.
Aaron also wanted to promote the shop’s other line of work, technology repairs, which he said is the main focus of the business.
He said: “That’s our main priority, that’s our main passion and we want to offer that service for people.
“I think people have their opinions on us and they’re perfectly entitled to have their opinions and that’s fine. We understand it, but we also want those people to see what we have to offer here.”
