Plans are gathering pace to introduce a 20mph speed limit on roads in Bedmond as part of a county-wide effort to improve road safety.
The new Liberal Democrat-led County Council wants to make it easier for communities to request lower speed limits where there is support.
Under the proposals, over 100 new 20mph schemes could be funded across the county over the next two years. This follows criticism that the previous Conservative-led council delivered only a small number of schemes, many involving costly traffic-calming measures.
Bedmond is now included on a list of areas to be consulted, following pressure from councillors. Supporters argue that vehicle speeds remain too high in parts of the village, including the High Street, Church Hill and the upper section of Toms Lane, believing a lower speed limit could improve safety for pedestrians and drivers alike.
A consultation would allow residents to share their views before any decision is made. If approved, a 20mph zone could be introduced later in the decade, potentially from 2027/28.
