While most of the world slept, the Recital Room at The Purcell School was alive with music.
The school’s first-ever Giving Day was a 24-hour celebration of music, community and generosity. From 10am on Thursday, December 11, to 10am the next morning, every department performed a repertoire of classical, jazz, contemporary and pop.
The music reached audiences worldwide through a live stream.
The event raised vital funds for the Bursary Fund, helping talented students who might otherwise be unable to access the school’s specialist education.
His Majesty King Charles III, the school’s Royal Patron, honoured the occasion with a special message: “I was truly touched to be reminded of the dedicated work that you do to celebrate and encourage the musical abilities of young people. In return, I send my warmest good wishes.”
Reflecting on the concert, Year 12 student Carla said: “Performing with friends, teachers and supporters watching from all over the world was something I’ll never forget. Knowing we were helping future students access the same opportunities we’ve had made it even more meaningful.”
