Two new Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) have started on the beat in Watford, joining the Safer Neighbourhood Team. The Safer Neighbourhood Team, consisting of PCSOs and PCs work with the community to improve the quality of life for residents and make the area safer, by proactively tackling crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB). PCSOs Sarah Thomas and Graham Green have joined the team after completing a six week training course. PCSO Sarah Thomas is covering Watford Fields. Prior to joining, Sarah, who is 40 years old and lives in Watford, worked in a local infant school for 12 years. Sarah said: “I was a Police Cadet when I was at school many years ago and decided that I needed a complete change and a new challenge. My beat area will be Watford Fields and I am looking forward to getting out and meeting everyone, from the young in schools to older people out in the community. I enjoy swimming, running and being out and about talking to people.” PCSO Graham Green is covering Stanborough. Prior to joining, Graham was at fitness coach, and before that he worked as a football coach for Watford FC Community Sports and Education Trust. Graham said: “I joined because I wanted to do something different. I have an ambition to be in the police service and feel that the role of a Police Community Support Officer will give me a good insight and some good experience. Every day is different in the role of a PCSO. I enjoy challenges and I like meeting new people. “I hope to tackle any crime that is taking place in my area in particular anti-social behaviour in and around the area.” Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire, David Lloyd, said: “PCSOs are firmly embedded within their community and are often the first port of call for people who are experiencing problems or those who just want some friendly police advice. As part of their role they will actively work with the community and partner organisations to find long-term solutions to anti-social behaviour. “They play a vitally important role in keeping the county safe and I welcome them to the Constabulary.”
