‘NEW LIFE’: Optimism as empty Rickmansworth High Street shops put up for sale

The face of Rickmansworth High Street could be set for an overhaul, with three vacant buildings recently put up for sale.

The former Santander, M&Co and Barclays buildings have all been made available, with optimism from local residents that new businesses will “breathe new life” into the town.

The Santander building has been empty since the bank branch closed down in July 2021, with property agents listing it for £45,000 per year.

Currently, it is listed as ‘under offer’ but it is not known which business has made the offer.

The M&Co building, which was vacated in April after the fashion brand went bust, is listed for £85,000 per year.

Meanwhile, it will cost £60,000 per year to take over the former Barclays building, which shut last September.

Rickmansworth resident Alex McKenzie said: “Empty units being filled can only be a good thing. I hope they find new businesses to take them over as it would breathe new life into the High Street.”

Another resident, Clare Hicks, said: “It would be great to see nice restaurants or specialist clothes shops, something to get people to come to Rickmansworth.”
