FREE TREES: Nearly 9,000 trees collected from Garston as part of council scheme

Local residents have collected 8,980 trees as part of Hertfordshire County Council’s (HCC) Your Tree Our Future Scheme.

Residents gathered to collect their free trees at Woodside Playing Fields in Garston on Saturday, December 9.

The Your Tree Our Future scheme, which was launched in 2022, is aiming to donate 100,000 trees to Hertfordshire residents by 2026.

As well as providing more greenery in local gardens, the scheme will help to eliminate an estimated 125,000 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere over the lifespan of the trees.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “It’s great that residents can get more involved with making Watford a greener place to live.

“When I was elected, I set a goal of helping to plant 20,000 trees by 2026 in the town. This tree giveaway was a massive step towards that goal, as well as helping the borough’s goal to be carbon net zero by 2030.”

The order window to claim a free tree is now closed, but you can sign up to the waiting list at hertfordshire.gov.uk/yourtree
