A Watford band have spoken out after someone took their album and tried to claim it as their own online.
Assimilate, who were formed more than 10 years ago, regularly play in Watford and have two EPs and two full-length albums.
Last month however, they were tipped off that someone had released their second album, Suffer in Silence, online in an almost identical format.
Speaking to WatfordNews, Matt Bown, the guitarist said they were shocked and didn’t know where to turn as it had never happened to them before.
He said: “As an unsigned grassroots-level band, we were unsure how we should deal with it. As an independent band it was perplexing.”
Matt added that they managed to get in touch with someone from Spotify who was super helpful in getting it taken down.
He said: “We have to do all this stuff ourself so it was reassuring to have people from much bigger organisations helping us out.”

Thanks for publicizing this issue. I just found out that my unknown album on Spotify was recently stolen in exactly the same way. Super frustrating. I hope there’s a way to hold the perps accountable.
