MUSIC MARATHON: Northwood pupils play songs for 24 hours to raise funds

Published on: 10th February 2026   |   By: Naomi Greenaway   |   Category: Featured

As the saying goes, “we all have the same 24 hours in a day”; but, for pupils at Merchant St Taylors’ theirs had a unique twist. Using their 24 hours wisely, time presented the perfect opportunity for pupils to immerse themselves in music for charity.

Eleven sixth formers kept the beat alive from Friday, January 23, to Saturday, January 24. Unique songs were performed throughout, such as Handel’s Messiah and jazz classics like Irving Berlin’s Cheek to Cheek.

The school raised over £1,000 for Phab. The charity brings children, young people, and adults living with or without disabilities together to enjoy fun activities.

A spokesperson for the school said: “It’s not just about the music; we do this to raise money for a charity cause. Activities are adapted so all can take part, contributing to Phab’s aim of building an inclusive world where everyone is valued and belongs.”

Donations will go towards the school’s Phab week, which will be held in April for those with physical and learning disabilities to enjoy. To donate visit www.shorturl.at/Nk2yZ
