The South Oxhey choir, which has many members from Bushey, was launched in 2008 on the BBC show The Choir: Unsung Town.
In a whirlwind of unforgettable moments, the group’s journey over the next six months included performing Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings at St Albans Cathedral, recording The Beatles’ In My Life at Abbey Road Studios, and headlining an open-air festival in South Oxhey.
Now, from concerts in top venues to trips reconnecting with founding members, the choir’s journey remains rooted in the same passion and togetherness that defined its extraordinary start.
With an eclectic repertoire spanning pop, musical theatre, folk and classical, the group’s rehearsals are fun and rewarding.
One member shared with BUSHEYnews: “There is something magical about creating music with such a large group of people. The moment when we finally get to grips with a challenging part of a song and sing in harmony is really special.”
The choir rehearses every Tuesday in term time at Oxhey Wood Primary School from 7pm to 8.30pm and residents are invited to come along. To find out more, email southoxheychoirs@gmail.com
