Oliver Dowden MP has pledged to continue supporting Hertsmere resident, Kamran Foroughi, with his campaign to secure the release of his 76 year old father, Kamal Foroughi, from an Iranian prison in Tehran. Mr Dowden made the commitment whilst discussing the Kamal Foroughi case on the BBC’s World Tonight programme recently. During the programme Kamran discussed at length his campaign and how difficult the past five years have been for him and his family. Kamal has now been in prison for over five years. This coming Saturday will mark his 77th birthday. He was 71 when he was first detained. Earlier this month Kamal received positive news from his lawyers indicating that he would shortly be released. However, there are fears that this appears to have been a false dawn as Kamran and his daughters continue to wait to be reunited with his father Last summer Kamran went public with his campaign to secure his father’s release and met with Mr Dowden. Since the meeting last summer, the MP has raised Kamal’s case three times in Parliament, has met with Foreign Office Minister, Tobias Ellwood MP, and in May led an Adjournment debate in the Commons, attended by over twenty of his Parliamentary colleagues, calling for Kamal’s release on compassionate grounds. Hear what Oliver Dowden MP had to say, and more, in the October edition of My Radlett & Shenley News, which will be distributed on September 30.
