Building works on a new Lidl supermarket in the village of Hunton Bridge are progressing steadily, with local residents holding mixed views on the upcoming store.
The supermarket will be situated on Hempstead Road, between the historic Grand Union Canal and the busy A41, where the World of Water Aquatic Centre previously existed.
The store is planned to open this summer, having received full planning permission from Three Rivers District Council in March 2024.
Large Lidl-branded billboards have been placed around the perimeter of the works stating: “We’re cracking on with your new store.”
However, various residents have raised concerns. One resident said: “This is a bad location for a supermarket without any changes to the road layout. It will generate significantly more traffic than the previous retail store.” Another described the planned store as “dangerous and needs rethinking”.
Despite ongoing controversy, some remain optimistic, with one resident sharing: “I can’t wait for it to open, it will be convenient and I love Lidl.”
