An inmate from The Mount prison in Bovingdon has joined the 262 prisoners released in error in the last 12 months.
After the Prison Officers Association (POA) confirmed the news, Kings Langley residents have been sharing concerns about their safety.
One resident told KINGSnews: “The fact there are people who have done crimes running around our streets doesn’t make sense.
“There have been so many in the last 12 months and the fact we are only just now hearing about it is a worry. Who else is walking around our streets? What other people have been released that are we not aware of?”
But it is not only for those around Bovingdon that these questions have been raised.
The news of wrongly released prisoners has dominated mainstream media since Hadush Kebatu was released while serving a 12-month sentence. He had been convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and a woman in July 2025.
He was meant to be transferred from HMP Chelmsford to an immigration detention centre for deportation, but was let free instead.
A manhunt ensued, and he was arrested on in the Finsbury Park area Sunday, October 26.
On Tuesday, November 11, Justice Secretary David Lammy told the House of Commons that 91 prisoners have been released by mistake in England and Wales since April, and as many as four released in the last 15 months remain at large.
The Mount and POA have been contacted for comment.
