It was a busy night for the roads policing team in Hertfordshire last night (November 5) as they catch an Audi and a Transit van breaking the law on the M1.
On lookers were cheering as the A3 was seen driving up the hard shoulder through the rush hour traffic near Watford at around 5pm.
Fortunately, the police were also stuck in the heavy traffic and were on hand to give the driver a fine and three points.
The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit tweeted: “This S3 driver didn’t want to wait in the rush hour traffic, so he used the hard shoulder. Unfortunately for him we were sat in lane one, waiting like the rest of you. Driver can expect three points and a fine.”

A short while later, the road policing team caught a Transit van driving under a under a red X in lane four near Hemel Hempstead on the M1.
Ahead of him was a recovery vehicle assisting a stranded driver in lane four.
Officers said the X “is there for everyone’s safety” and should not be ignored.
This Transit was seen to drive under a red X in lane 4 that was protecting workers recovering a vehicle in that lane a short distance ahead.
The signs are there for everyones safety, don't ignore them.

At around 11am this morning the southbound exit at Junction 6 of the M1 was shut whilst a vehicle was recovered following a collision with the barrier.
No one was seriously injured, and only minor injuries were reported.
