The orchestra at St John’s Church of England School in Stanmore took part in a prestigious concert last month.
After auditioning at a regional festival in Harrow in March, the St John’s pupils were selected to perform at the National Festival of Music for Youth. The orchestra – which is composed of pupils in Years 3 to 6 – travelled to Birmingham for their performance on Friday, July 5.
St John’s aims to champion music education, with more than 100 of its pupils learning instruments. The 46 children who make up the orchestra regularly lead the worship during assembly every Wednesday.
Music teacher Mrs Ogunniyi said: “It is such an honour to be chosen to go to the Nationals in Birmingham – this opportunity is recognition of their hard work and commitment.”
Headteacher Mrs Hester added: “This achievement reflects the love of music felt across the whole school. It highlights pupils’ ability to work together and the high quality of their performance.”
