Police are currently attending a serious incident on the northbound carriageway of the M1 near Junction 5 and are asking drivers to avoid the area where possible. Police and the ambulance service are at the scene having been called to the concern for welfare of two people at around 10.45am. The southbound carriageway had been closed but is now open however, the northbound carriageway is closed and is expected to remain closed for some time. Drivers are thanked for their patience but asked to find alternative routes where possible. A witness claimed that a man jumped from the bridge at junction 6 and a second man, who tried to help him, was hit by car. They claim both men died at the scene. More information to follow.
