The Paul Strickland Scanner Centre (PSSC), based at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood, paid tribute to its patron HRH The Duchess of Kent, who sadly passed away last month.

The centre said that the support from Katherine, Duchess of Kent, was a source of strength and pride for all those connected with the charity.

Dr Strickland, the founder of PSSC, was among the first to be convinced of the importance of medical imagery for the treatment of patients with cancer and other serious diseases.

Nearly 40 years ago, in 1986, the Duchess attended PSSC’s official opening ceremony.

In 2010, the centre celebrated its 25th anniversary and the Duchess wrote to Dr Strickland offering her congratulations to mark “25 years of advancement in the battle against cancer and other serious diseases”.

In June 2015, the Duchess attended PSSC’s 30th anniversary meeting with staff and conversed with patients and supporters, as well as enjoying a tour of the site.

Paying tribute to the beloved patron, CEO of PSSC Clair Strickland said: “Her unwavering support over four decades has meant a great deal to our staff, patients, and supporters.

“Her dedication to charitable causes and her empathy for others were evident in her long-standing commitment to our mission of improving our patients’ lives.”
