LOCKDOWN ENTERTAINMENT: Children in Rickmansworth can enjoy online birthday parties during pandemic

Children in Rickmansworth can celebrate their birthdays while in lockdown through a zoom call with Auntie Julie.

Former police officer and very popular children’s party entertainer, Julie, was one of the first pioneers to start online birthday parties.

Julie said: “With everyone ‘locked down’ in their own houses with just their families, no one was going to be able to have a traditional party. We had to find a way to get all the family and friends in one place.

“This is where conference calling came into popular use outside of the office. With one easy download you can connect with all your party guests and watch an interactive show from the comfort of your own sofa.”

She explained that the shows online tend to be shorter than a traditional magic show but there are still plenty of tricks that work over a screen.

Julie added: “For the first week of lockdown I think us entertainers were in shock. The phone calls cancelling parties soon started to come. They didn’t stop until there were no jobs this side of the autumn left. It was very dispiriting.

“Parents have been very stressed trying to find a way to make their child’s birthday special. Online parties seem to be the best solution.

“I got a lovely text from one mum saying how happy she was with the party and how glad she was that she had booked it.”
