The council have called for enhanced security after a former care home has been the victim of a spate of attempted break-ins and acts of vandalism.
In the January issue of ABBOTSnews, we reported on Hertfordshire County Council’s approval of the proposed sale of former care home, Margaret House.
After ceasing to be a residential care home, Margaret House came back under the control and management of Hertfordshire County Council and since the property became vacant, there have been a number of attempted break-ins and acts of vandalism.
On December 15, Hertfordshire County Council applied to Three Rivers District Council for permission to install a number of security cameras to be monitored remotely. For this to be effective, a certain amount of vegetation needed to be cut back or removed so that 360 vision can be gained throughout the site.
Approval for these changes was granted on December 22.
The county council’s own development subsidiary Herts Living Limited (HLL) has already drawn up plans for 27 new homes on the land. These would include four two-bed houses and six three-bed houses, as well as 11 one-bed flats and six two-bed flats.
The plan is currently being considered by the district council.
At the start of this month HCC agreed to consider the site surplus and it could now be sold to HLL for up to £3 million.
