The first advanced Black Belt Karate grading examination was held at Watford Shotokan Club, in Bushey Grove Leisure Centre recently.
The five students who graded were Monika Tabarrok; who achieved 4th dan; Richard Bromberg 3rd dan; Saeed Rizai 2nd dan; Emily Turner 2nd dan; and Zak Kupfer (Jnr) 2nd dan.
The Judges, Nicholas Adamou (9th Dan) and Riza Yehiya (7th dan), congratulated the students on a “phenomenal performance” as certificates were awarded at the end of the examination which comprised katas (forms), combination moves and controlled sparring techniques.
The club at Bushey Grove Leisure Centre was launched in 2021 after COVID-19 lockdown eased, and now meets on Thursdays at 7.30pm.
Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experienced martial artists, either to look or to try a class. Just wear loose clothing to start with and the first class is free.
All instructors are NAKMAS (Governing body for Martial Arts) accredited and certified by the International Association of Shotokan Karate (IASK).
