Jumping in puddles is a core memory for many, and children at Little Fawns Preschool have been making a splash throughout the winter as they continue outdoor learning despite the cold and wet conditions.
Staff say children spend time outside each day, with recent rain offering opportunities for physical play such as puddle-jumping and exploring seasonal changes in the environment.
It is this love of outdoor play, which, according to the preschool, has helped to bring confidence and resilience.
A spokesperson for the preschool told ABBOTSnews that outdoor activities help develop children’s physical confidence and resilience during varying weather.
They said: “Exploring the outdoors is something we do every day, using our physical skills, jumping up as high as we can and making the biggest splashes.”
Social interaction is also a key aspect, with staff observing that group play encourages communication, teamwork and relationship-building.
The update comes as early years settings across Hertfordshire adjust their winter programmes, with many highlighting the role of outdoor play in supporting children’s wellbeing during the darker months.
