In a bid to stay on track with his running goals for the year, a runner has set a challenge of completing six marathons this year to raise money for the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre (PSSC), based in Northwood.
Andy’s determination to take on the races stems from losing his mother-in-law, Marg, to cancer a decade ago.
It was the support and care that she received from the centre which left a long-lasting impression, and now he hopes his fundraising will give back in a meaningful way.
His aim is now to raise £6,000 for the centre in tribute. Andy shared: “This challenge is my way of continuing to support the incredible difference they make to so many families while honouring Marg’s memory. I know she would be incredibly proud of this challenge.”
Some of Andy’s races have already taken place in January, with the next scheduled for Saturday, February 21, when Andy will run the Magna Carta Marathon.
Other upcoming events include the Brighton Marathon on Sunday, April 12, and the Limerick Run on Sunday, May 3, in Marg’s hometown marking her memory.
Other race dates are yet to be confirmed, but Andy hopes that his running journey can inspire others to support the centre and continue its life-saving work for families and friends affected by the serious illness.
Before NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews went to print, the total donation via JustGiving was over £2,000.
