A charity football match and family fun day hosted in Ruislip has helped raise thousands of pounds in memory of a young girl who passed away recently.
Five-year-old Sienna Quarrington Patel was rushed to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in the week preceding Christmas last year. She had contracted a very rare strain of strep A, something the doctors are still investigating, and sadly lost her life on December 21.
In the ensuing months, her family have embarked on multiple fundraising campaigns to support GOSH.
At The Middlesex Stadium in Ruislip on July 29, Sienna’s family and friends competed in a charity football game and raised £3,000. They also hosted an online raffle on the same day, which generated a further £3,000.
Anita Patel, Sienna’s mother, said: “Everyone at The Middlesex Stadium was fantastic and really helpful. They gave us the clubhouse and the pitch for free and were so supportive.”
Since Sienna’s passing, the family have now raised nearly £20,000 for GOSH, and hope to make the football game an annual event.
Anita said: “GOSH were incredible from the minute we got there. Normally, you wouldn’t be able to sit with the child in the ICU, but they made accommodations for us, and they extended the visiting times as we had lots of family visit in Sienna’s final days. Nothing was too small or too big.”
