A family has been left heartbroken following the death of a beloved husband and father after a cycling accident earlier this year.
Jose Marques, 47, was involved in an incident while cycling in Rowley Lane, Borehamwood, on Tuesday, January 13. He returned home around 4.45pm to his wife, Liliana Marques, and their son covered in mud.
His family helped him get cleaned up, but he soon began complaining of pain in his left side. Realising something was seriously wrong, Liliana took him to Barnet Hospital.
Jose had suffered a broken collarbone, fractured ribs and a fractured eye socket. He passed away three days later, surrounded by his loved ones. Nearly four months on, the family, some of whom live in Radlett, are still searching for answers about what happened.
They are appealing for anyone who may have seen a traffic incident involving a cyclist on the date in question to come forward.
Jose’s sister-in-law Vera Wright, of Theobald St, Radlett, said: “I thought of him as a brother not a brother-in-law. He was a huge figure in my life.”
Wife Liliana said: “I need to know what happened. happened. If someone knocked him down, please come forward. Its the not knowing that’s making it harder.
“My husband was loved by the community. He offered to do up people’s gardens and host barbeques. This year marks our 25th anniversary, and now I have been left with no space. The gap in our lives remains immeasurable.”
Hertfordshire Constabulary said: “Officers have submitted a report to the Hertfordshire coroner, having completed an investigation. Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this sad time.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the police on 101.
