Tring Tornadoes U18 Bedmond team won their Herts FA County Cup Final on Sunday, March 8, 4-2 against Cheshunt at the FA County Ground, Letchworth.
The Tring boys got off to a fast start and were 3-0 up inside 30 minutes with goals from Fraser Wood (2) and Rocco Addati. In the second half, Cheshunt looked like they would pull the game back after a goal on 60 minutes.
The Tring lads weathered some pressure before winning a penalty in the 70th minute, which Ben Dunsby converted for 4-1. Cheshunt continued to compete and won a penalty themselves with five minutes of normal time remaining. A fantastic save by Zac Funnell kept Tring on track. Then, two minutes into time added on, Cheshunt scored 4-2.
A further eight minutes of time added on seemed to take an eternity before the referee finally blew his whistle, triggering the beginning of a huge celebration for the lads and their Manager Michele Ferrazzano and his Assistant Nick Brewer.
After the game, Michele said: “Today was a great result for the whole team as they head towards the end of their time in youth football. They did Tring Tornadoes, us and their parents proud, but most of all they created a fantastic memory for themselves.”
Captain Billy Saunders added: “Huge congratulations to all the players after an amazing county cup win. The talent, determination and teamwork on display was exceptional, not just in the final but also in all the games leading up to it.
“A massive thank you to Michele, Nick and Stephen and all the parents and supporters. Without your belief, none of this would be possible, and it made the atmosphere on the day and the victory even more special.”
Tornadoes chairman Stephen Bailey praised everyone involved in the TT U18 Bedmond team for achieving a club first of getting to a County Cup Final (at any age group) and another in winning a County Cup Final for the first time in the club’s 55-year history.
The team still has a West Herts Youth League Cup Semi-Final to play and is still in contention for the 1st Division title too. All that ahead of upcoming A Levels too!
