Watford are making the long trip home empty from Merseyside empty handed after a 10th minute goal condemned Javi Gracia’s men to a fifth straight defeat in the Premier League.
The Hornets lost the last three games in 2018/19, have still not found the back of the net this term and were made to pay after a sluggish start to the match.
Gracia’s men were much improved after half-time with Jordan Pickford pulling off a fine save in a one-on-one Watford skipper Troy Deeney.
Star midfielder Abdoulaye Doucore pulled a shot wide late on after a Deeney shot deflected off Michael Keane.
Former Watford favourite Richarlison also had a couple of chances to score against his former employers.
The game also saw Danny Welbeck make his debut for Watford.
After full time, Hornets fans took to social media with some calling for changes when the Golden Boys take on West Ham next weekend.
Aidan Hogan suggested: “Change needed next week. Change of line up and formation is what we need. Would like a see a 4-3-3 with Quina coming in for Hughes in the Midfield and Sarr and Welbeck replacing Deeney and Pereyra in an attacking 3.”
Mel Bale however was more upbeat.
He tweeted: “The improvement is there, much better performance today, just need to switch on from minute 1 and we will be golden 😉 #EVEWAT #Watford #WatfordFC #PremierLeague #football #wewillbefine”
