HOG HELP: Family-run Amersham farm facing challenges amidst cost-of-living crisis

Published on: 1st February 2024   |   By: Darius Morgan   |   Category: Uncategorized

Rising costs have led to a family-run pig farm in Amersham launching a fundraising appeal.

Amersham Kew Pigs, founded by Olivia Mikhail in 2011, is calling for support during a cost-of-living crisis which has made “extra treats and enrichment equipment hard to come by”.

On their GoFundMe page, a spokesperson for Kew Pigs stated: “It can be difficult to provide the high standards that we are used to, especially during the winter months. Rising costs in feed and food is very challenging and with our barn extension, creating an indoor facility for customers, our overheads have massively increased.

“We are a small, private, family-run farm, employing local people and receive no funding or grants externally. As a small business, this is a very challenging time.”

All contributions will go towards essential items such as straw and shavings to keep the pigs warm, feed, fruits and veg, and cleaning equipment.

The farm have set a target of £2,000 and have raised just under £200 at the time of writing.
