Pupils from schools across Berkhamsted have taken part in a local art project which will help the community take a trip back in time.

Several pupils have helped to make felt tapestries which will be displayed at the Berkhamsted Medieval Festival over the bank holiday weekend on August 28 and 29.

The project was funded by the Berkhamsted & District Chamber of Commerce and was led by local artist and former manager of Berkhamsted Arts and Crafts Jo Kidd.

A spokesperson for the Berkhamsted & District Chamber of Commerce said: “In celebration of our Medieval Festival that will be taking place at the end of this month, we funded an art project to involve Berkhamsted school children in the fun! The project was led by local artist Jo Kidd, former manageress of Berkhamsted Arts and Crafts.

“Children have been busy making amazing felt hangings in the style of medieval battle pennants, each one unique and symbolic of their individual school.

“On Monday, August 29, at Berkhamsted Medieval Festival, we will be joined by the mayor who will be taking part in our special ceremony where the tapestries made by each school will be formally handed over. This presentation will be taking place at 2pm.”

The schools involved were Bridgewater, Berkhamsted, Greenway, Victoria, Potten End, Swing Gate, Thomas Coram, Westfield, St Marys and St Thomas More.

If you can’t attend the festival the tapestries will be displayed at Berkhamsted Town Hall.
