A Garston family is raising funds to help out their niece, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour, get the medical care she needs.
Joyce Napolitano, of St Albans road, spoke to GarstonNews about her four-year old niece Janella, who lives in the Philippines.
She said: “We are lucky and privileged here, we have the NHS, which is not the case in the Philippines. I personally don’t know how to help financially as I had recently lost my job due to COVID-19.
“So to help out, I’ve decided to sell some afternoon tea treats boxes on the Saturdays of this month (November), where all proceeds would be donated to the go fund me page set up for Janella.”
Joyce said the whole situation has been quite stressful emotionally.
She added: “The emotional strain and heartache is overwhelming but to have the stress of financially affording treatment is a stress no parent should have to face, so we are truly thankful to everyone who had ordered a box.”
Janella has been diagnosed with an Ependymoma and is currently fighting for her life.
She is currently in the Intensive Care Unit, in comatose and intubated on mechanical ventilatory support.
In a few weeks time, she will wake up so that they can proceed with her chemotherapy.
To help Joyce raise money for her nice, search for “Janella’s fight against brain cancer” on GoFundMe.
