Waiting on a cold, rainy platform, coffee in hand, and – oh yes – a delayed train again. For many residents of Pinner, this frustrating scene has become all too familiar.
A report by the Office of Rail and Road for 2024 to 2025 found punctuality and reliability were the most common cause of complaints, accounting for 19.3 per cent.
David Simmonds, MP for Northwood, Ruislip and Pinner, has highlighted these ongoing issues in Parliament.
Speaking during oral questions on Thursday, January 8, he raised concerns about what can be done to “ensure a more punctual and reliable service”.
The MP said: “The number of times that the trains have been cancelled or heavily delayed has made commuting difficult and unpredictable.
“With the Mayor of London increasing tube fares by 5.8 per cent this year, it is unacceptable for this to continue.”
A Transport for London spokesperson said: “We apologise to customers affected by the temporary suspension of the Piccadilly line between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge. This is a precautionary measure to reduce the risk of damage to train wheels caused by significant leaf fall. Metropolitan line services continue to operate between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge and trains continue to run from Rayners Lane along the rest of the Piccadilly line.
“We employ a robust action plan every year to minimise the impact of leaf fall on our network which includes intensive trackside vegetation clearance and running specialist engineering trains along affected sections. However, high volumes of leaves can make the track slippery and increase the risk of damage to train wheels. Customers are advised to plan ahead, to check before they travel and to allow more time for their journey.”
