HEAVY DEFEAT: Wealdstone brushed aside by Sutton United

Published on: 21st February 2021   |   By: Geraint Roberts   |   Category: Wealdstone F.C

Wealdstone suffered another damaging defeat at the hands of Sutton United away from home yesterday afternoon after three first half goals set them on their way to more dropped points.

The result leaves the Stones in 19th place in the Vanarama National League, and still searching for their first league win in 2021.

Sutton opened the scoring on the 20th minute mark after Ajiboye played through Olaofe, who took a touch and put the ball beyond Harry Isted and into the net.

The task got even tougher five minutes before half time when Wealdstone saw Charles sent off, and Sutton took immediate advantage just minutes later when Bugiel’s cross found Ben Goodliffe, who nodded the ball beyond Isted.

The home side added another just before the half time whistle when an Isted error allowed John to tap home the loose ball, to put the game beyond any doubt.

Wealdstone did make an improvement at the start of the second half however when a free kick was whipped in towards Cawley, who headed the ball across to Danny Parish, who gave his side a glimmer of hope of getting something out of the game.

Sutton managed to control the majority of the game from that point though, and managed to add a fourth goal after Eastmond’s cut back found Sho-Silva who headed the ball into the net.

Wealdstone are back in action at home on Tuesday night as they welcome fourth placed Eastleigh to Grosvenor Vale.
